Down here in the Southeast corner of Alabama it seems we're in the midst of a crime wave, much like the rest of America. Thanks, Democrats. Historically this has been a pretty quite little area of the country without any big to-do's ever happening. Well, we finally got put on the map with some 13%’rs having a little gunfight at our annual Peanut Festival Parade in Dothan, AL on November 12th.
The Peanut Festival is akin to what folks in the Midwest have as a “State Fair.” We’ve got all the fair food, events, rides, shows, and even a demolition derby. It goes on for 10 days and spans 2 weekends. It’s a pretty big deal down here and it brings people in from all over. During the second weekend of the Festival we always have the big parade right through the middle of Dothan. It’s your typical home-grown parade full of tractors and hand-made floats, packed with all the young beauty queens from all the local towns who participated in the big pageant. Hundreds of people spend countless hours building these floats each year.
The parade attracts thousands of people who line the streets from all walks of life. The parade itself spans several miles through the city. Children, elderly, handicap, black, white, brown and everything in-between come out to see the parade, hear the bands, and grab the candy. Unfortunately though, we’re not insulated from the thuggery that is permeating the rest of America. This year, as the last of the floats were passing through the middle of town and crowds of people were already packing up, a group of “youths” decided to have a little brawl that ended up in gunfire and 1 dead. Right in the middle of town among the parade crowd. Friends who were in that area said the “youths” had been hooting and hollering and causing all sorts of unruly problems the whole morning during the parade. They weren't entirely surprised it ended in a brawl-shootout.
In the days since the standard issue police, political, and “community” leaders have put out milquetoast statements and talking points about “coming together” and “showing love” to our youths to “save” them. In the days since there have been even more shootings in the area. In the days since we have found out that the shooter from the parade was already out on bond from an earlier shooting this year. He's a real peach with one of those “cultural” names that screams “most of my life will be in a jail cell!”
One of the most basic fundamentals of problem solving is that you first have to accurately define the problem to be solved. No, it’s not the Amish or the Presbyterians having gunfights all around town. We don’t have little armies of migrant children shooting up the neighborhoods. Eskimos from up north aren’t coming into our cities to act out the O.K. Coral. Black youth are committing the shootings, ok? Black. Youth. The community in general doesn't have a problem here, the black community has the problem.
So, White people, quit talking like the problem is anything else. When you make your milquetoast appeals to the public, you immediately lose any and all support because the good people of your community know you think they’re stupid. They know you’re full of crap and a coward for refusing to correctly identify the problem. They know you’re just as much a part of the problem as the black community because you’ll work 10x harder just to try and throw the blame somewhere else. It’s not going to work.
Fortunately, many in the community know exactly where the problem is and they avoid that sector as much as possible. Unfortunately, the hoodlum thuggery is now spilling over into decent people’s lives and daily activities. We’re not just talking about physically, either. Our small city nightly news is completely engrossed in all things black community. First you watch and listen about all the black crime, and then you watch and listen to all the puff pieces about black living. All of the features, charitable give-aways, and success stories are all about the black community. A complete stranger to the South would watch our news broadcasts for the first time and mistake our city for one in Nairobi. It really is that lopsided.
The point being is that our black community is not some shunned, outcast group who is merely lashing out at their betters. No, their community has been the beneficiary of decades of “help” and public priority. No single ethnicity in human history has been on the receiving end of so much public produce than the black community, so why are we having a massive black crime wave?
I think you know the answer. Any parent or grandparent who has experienced a spoiled child knows the answer. Sloppy, poor parenting, absent fathers, no accountability, relaxed consequences or even no consequences, coupled with an almost religious worship by the media and entertainment industry of the black community is a recipe for disaster. I think we knew we’d get here at some point and well, we’ve arrived. Our public policy for so long has been “worship the black community and don’t dare say a cross thing about them or you’ll be branded a rayciss!” I don't care about labels anymore. Someone’s got to say it. I said it. Im saying it. The black community has a problem with violent crime.
So what do we do about it now? Holy cow, that’s a big bastard to tackle. One step at a time.
It's sad, but in the 2 months since writing this the black community in Alabama has seen an explosion in violent crime. Daily killings in Birmingham, Montgomery, Mobile, and places in between. It's getting worse, not better, and no one has any answers or solutions to confront it.
